Mission Un-Impossible

Well I failed to meet my first goal of getting 5 dudes painted up in the first week, but in the second week I challenged myself to not only finish up those 5, but to do another five.

Well it took me to within an hour of going over to Tom's today, but I got my 10-dorf Quarreler unit completed. I took them over to Tom's house, and Tom and John were nice enough to tell me how good they looked. This was really nice. I will try to put some pictures of them up tomorrow.

WWWAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!!

So, I am looking to just play a 'fun' army. What could be more fun than Orks? No real tactics there, just run 80 screaming Orcs at the enemy and let the Gobbos plink at them from the flanks.

Dustin is really wanting to play the Lizards and I'm tempted to let him have them. I think they would be a good starter army for him.

The list Im looking at looks like this:

General:
Black Orc Warboss (Lho'kar Blacktusk)
Heavy Armour
Martog's Best Basha
Enchanted Shield
Effigy of Mork
Bigged's Kickin' Boots

So I guess I'm screwed...

So it looks like if I'm ever going to have a viable Lizardmen Army, I'm going to have to go with the Slaan. The problem is, I don't want to use a SLAAN!! I like my Old Blood!!! Either on the Carnie or on a Cold One, he's my favorite HQ choice.

My new list has an Engine, with it's 3 bound, automatic, un-dispellable spells, which really boosts my Skink Priest. I can make him into a cheap lvl 3 wizard which gives me 6 casting dice, 5 dispell dice, and 3 dispell scrolls. Also, I have a magical banner that makes all enemy wizards within 18" stupid. Isn't that enough anti magic??

Druchii Test Models

So I've been painting up some color tests for my models. And well one of my characters got painted in the process. The model was too cool not to.

I chose color schemes that were appropriately dark elfy, and also quick enough that I can mass paint my rank and file guys. I haven't decide what the hell I'm going to do do with the Corsairs yet..they are almost too cool to mass paint. Maybe I can think of a clever way to make them all unique. Anyway..on to the models:

Bolts-a-Plenty!

So things have gone down hill. I really haven't done anything since Wednesday. I worked 13 hours on Thursday and Friday and I was tired. Saturday, as you know, we got the new puppy, and on Sunday Tamara surprised me with Rock Band 2 for the Wii I got her for xmas. Yesterday, we had our livingroom painted, so crap...

There have been some updates. I recieved my Warriors, while we were down in Houston picking up Finnley, we were like 2 miles from one of the 50-odd GW stores, so I went in and picked up a Dwarf Engineer. So as of now, all I need for my list is:

Bolt Thrower (with 3 crew)

King Alric (with 2 shield Bearers)

Engineer

6 Hammerers

So because I have been working on stuff on the assembly line, it is hard to judge exactly how much I have painted. I think for the end of this weekend, I am going to try to have 10 Quarrelers completed, and have the warrirors assembled.

F me

13 hours at work. no painting...

Lizardmen list

Okay, here's a list I've been playing around with:

Staff of the Lost Sun (Range 18", St 5, Multiple shots x3)

11 Skink skirmishers with blowpipes

Magical Banner - Plaque of Dominion (Enemy wizards within 18" must take stupid test)

3 Terradon riders

2250pts

EDIT: So, in order to add some magic to my list without taking a Slaan, I've added the EotG to my list.

Pew pew!

So today I started by painting my Thunderers and Quarrelers. I put the chainmail on the minis, and then the Knarloc Green and Mordian Blue accent colors.

My Thunderers with their Chainmail, Blue and Green.

The Quarrelers, soon to be joined by their Musician!

After that I put some paint on my Gyrocopter. I'm not exactly sure I'm happy with it. The colors are my Barak Varr blue, and the yellow for the Engineer's Guild. The yellow looks bad at the moment because it is the Iyanden Darksun, and that makes it a mustard color. I hate hate hate, painting yellow, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do after the base coat is done.

My Gyrocopter with the pilot sitting next to it, and yes, that yellow is THAT ugly in person!

In other news, I bought some bits off of eBay that will allow me to finish up my Quarrelers. Next week I'm planning to buy my box of Warriors that will finish up my Warrirors and Longbeards.

I didn't get to beards today, and I doubt I will tomorrow. There is some thingy going on at work, so I get to work with the kids until 4:30 then be back by 6 to talk with parents. Whee!

In sad news, I have cleared the Space Pups off of my desk. I don't think I'll be working on them until I'm done with these dwarfs, unless I get to a point where I can't stand the sight of stunties and need a break.

Anywho, until later...

Now THATS beardie!

So here is my update. There are 101 days until CCC.
Before we go into all the steps, I want to explain my paint scheme. Because my Dwarfs are from Barak Varr, the Dwarf Seaport, I want my “main” color to be blue. This will be the color the goes from unit to unit to tie all of the models into an army. For most models, their sleeves will be in blue, as well as any cloaks. Each different type of unit (fighters, ranged, Engineers, Ruinsmiths) will have their own accent color (red, green, yellow, and perhaps white respectively). Now for all of these colors, what I will be doing is laying down a base coat of Foundation Paint, then I will go over that with different shades of the primary color. I want the units and the army tied together with a cohesive color scheme, but I don’t want them all to be cookie-cutter and have the exact same shades of blues, reds, etc. I doubt anyone other than me will notice it, but what the hell. FYI, I may be asking to borrow some shades I am missing in the future.
Yesterday, first thing, I made sure all my Warriors, Longbeards and Hammerers that I have on hand were primed.
After that was done, I started doing a bit of assembly-line painting. I painted all the chainmail, and some accent colors.
I first started by putting Mordian blue on all the places I want to be blue. Then I put Mechrite Red on my Warrior, Longbeard and Hammerers units, and did a bit of work on my BSB, Engineer and Runesmith.

Hammerers unit with the chainmail, and red and blue accents.

BSB, Engineer and Runesmith.

Then I painted up 20 bases. For the bases I put down a base coat of Codex Grey, and then drybrushed Dhneb Stone.

40 painted bases.
In non-painting news, I assembled and pinned my Gyrocopter.
Today I was "sick" so I was home and did a bit of painting, but not too much. One of the things I did before any painting was to make the first rank of my Longbeards look different than my regular warriors. My original plan was to buy a box of the Longbeards Command, but I couldn't justify spending $25 on 5 dudes, when I need to spend so much to get the rest of the army put together. So what I did instead is something suggest in the Dwarf Army Book. The Dwarf Warrior sprews have face masks, so I have put a mask on the first rank of the unit that will be my Longbeards. That way they are visibly different from the warriors, but I can stick them in a different rank if I want them to be regular warriors in the future.
After that was done, I went to work on the beards for the Longbeards. These guys got a base-coat of Codex Grey, I did a first highlight of Astronomican Grey, and then a final highlight of Skull white. I think they came out pretty well.

First rank of Longbeards
Then I slapped some Dwarf Flesh on the tiny bits of skin on each of the Longbeards that didn't have masks.

Second Rank of Longbeards, no masks!
While all of this was going on, I primed my Thunderers and Quarrelers and the Gyrocopter. At this point in time, everything I currently have on had for the army is primed.
Lastly, I painted up 20 more bases.
For tomorrow, I'm going to shoot for chainmail on the Thunderers and Quarrelers, and accent colors.
For the rest of my dudes, I am going to paint their beards in a variety of colors, so lastly, for tomorrow, I'm going tryto paint all of the dudes for one color of beards (I'm thinking dark brown).

GooooOOooOoOOoooOOOOooooooOooOal!

So I am strongly considering going to the Capital City Carnage in May, so I need to get some things done.

First is getting a list together, and this is what I'm looking at taking.

This is not supposed to be a super competitive list, I put in units that I want to play around with. Now, I do have two S7 bolt throwers, but I really think that is pretty much the extent of the "douchebaggery" of the list.

So from that, I have a list of the models I need.

So what I am going to try to do is set myself weekly goals. As of this moment, I have the Organ Gun and crew, 1 warrior, 4 drunk dwarfs, and Lord I probably won't be using painted.

So What I'm going to try to do is paint about 5 dudes a week. I think that is d0-able with my skill(z) and the time and effort I put into each mini.

At this moment, I have all of my warriors and hammers either base-coated, or drying.

Anywho, I figured if I have a stated goal and if I post progress on here, I may actually get things ready.

Off to paint...

Mr. Hurricane, you have a call on line 1...

So I bought the Njal Stormcaller model and I finally got him painted up so that I could take him up against Tamara last weekend. This is what I came up with.

This model was a PITA to paint. So many little bits everywhere that it was really hard to pick them all out from the primer. One of the things I like, but I'm not a 100% on are the runes in his armor and his staff. What I did is used some watered down blazing orange to get into the groves, then dry-brushed black over it, I was attempting to make it look like they were glowing.

Another think I really liked was using the Dwarf flesh paint on the skin. It just gives the skin a "ruddy" completion, and I think it looks good on the SWs (and my new dwarfs).
I'm not really thrilled with out the raven turned out. I like the wires and eye piece on the bird, but I just don't like the grey highlights I put on with a dry brush. I may have to re do it.

As for the dude in combat. I don't think hes as badass as everyone thinks. Hes a T4, W2 model with no eternal warrior, so a S8 hit or above will kill him outright. Also, most of his badassedness comes from psychic powers that have pretty short ranges. The living lightning is nice because it is unlimited range, but after that is JotWW and that has a 24 inch range, and everything else is 18 inches or less. This dude costs more than a Land Raider and I just don't know about getting him stuck in. I'd be pooping bricks against getting him out of a transport against LR or Basilisk squadrons. Anywho, I don't see me playing with him much, but hes too cool of a model NOT to pick up.

Be afraid...

Be Very Afraid! The Black Ark approaches.

These Dorfs musta been Korean Linguists...

I present to you, my most favorite x-mas present of 2009, the Drunk Dwarfs.

Ring ring... ring ring...

So I'm checking out the interwebs, surfing the tubes and I happen to hear about these things. I know you all go catatonic when I bring up anything made by GW that has a round base, but I think these are pretty nifty, and I may be purchasing a pack of these.

These are wound counters. You can stick these on your 40mm bases to keep track of how many wounds your model has taken without having to place a die or a token next to the model to get knocked around or confuse you.
Don't like the green? No problem, you can get these in 14 different colors including black and clear. When you order these, you get two of each of the rings for 1-4 wounds.
Now if you have models that have more than 4 wounds you are kinda screwed, unless you want to put two rings on the same base. I also don't like the script too much. Looks like it'd'll be cool for Tau, but not so much for my Space pups. Lastly, these bases come in 40mm and 25mm, but what about my multi-wound Terminator? But who know, maybe in the future they will do different sizes.
Anywho, if you'd like to check it out for yourself, check it out at http://back2base-ix.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=2140.
