Brettonian Roster #1

These are the Knights of the Iron Fist. I plan on using the Crimson Fist SM transfers on their shields, since I don't have any Brett transfers. It's been edited at Calvin's advice. Pretty straight forward. Men at Arms in the middle with BSB unit and two KotR units on the right flank, then the Lord, Errants, and Relique to the left. Spearheaded down the field.

  1. I personally discourage the use of Questing Knights. I just feel that they aren't worth the points since the strength of mounted greatweapons was nerfed.

I likewise have bad experiences with the trebuchet, I really feel that a unit of pegasus knights is of far greater value in dealing with enemy war machines.

That being said, against lizardmen, flying units suffer greatly at the hands of skirmishing skinks if they are deployed properly.

Oh I forgot to add. Excellent choice on the lord and BSB. Those are my favorites.

    Butt Head says:

    Questing Knights:

They are still wounding at Str 5 and it is a unit that doesn't have to worry about getting it's charge off in order to do damage. I thought of experimenting with them to protect a flank..

    Pegasus Knights:

I have a 2nd list that has these in conjunction with the Trebuchet for hunting enemy war machines etc...

    Trebuchet:

I have not had luck with it either, but Damn it, one of these games it's actually gonna do so damage. It's either this or peasant bowman and I really hate them...

My other option is not taking the Trebuchet, Questing, or Pegausus knights at all and instead taking another whole 9 knight unit of KotR.

Another idea I was toying around with (John gave me the idea) was putting the Grail Vow on the BSB as well, making all his weapons magical attacks, since he can't take any other items (in case a Banshee pops up).

I disagree that questing knights don't require getting a charge off. They very much do, because with their reduced armor saves and striking last, they are less resilient than ordinary KoTR if they don't get the charge.

I just feel that they're far too expensive to be nothing more than a detachment used for taking out rank bonuses when a similar unit of 5 KoTR can do the same thing without taking up a special slot.

The thing with Questing knights....and I understand Calvin's hesitation....they are your grinders. They are able to hit a unit and then keep dishing out punishment. The unit is great 5-wide since they are used against that enemy unit that is hard to beak on the charge or for the tough monster etc. Re-rolling failed psychology test is a nice bonus that meshes well for what these guys do. Yes they took a hit with the nerf bat with the GW mounted rule, so did Knights of the White Wolf (Ulric's boys) and their cavalry hammers...lost the rule and they are simply GW armed grinders.

I say use them since they will have a mission they will need to perform that normal KotR won't be able to do so as well.

Besides...I love the models. 5-wide, not in lance formation since they are the grinder...you need all 5 in contact past the charge.

On an only semi-related note, I dont like that AB lists them as having the same save as KoTR. They do not. They CAN use handweapon/shield but that sort of defeats the purpose of having greatweapons. Also it's important to remember that they cannot switch in mid-battle.

I say stick your questing knights in there and give them a shot. Or maybe next weekend we can get together and mess around with some stuff to see if you like the way they work.
