So I had this brilliant idea. Talk about it on the blog...

More reliable rumours

[*]Army construction is moving back to percentages.
[*]Strength in Depth/ Stepping up (models may fight in 2 ranks)
[*]Crush attack for larger creatures
[*]40mm models moving to 3 model-wide ranks.
[*]Multiple objective driven scenarios in the rulebook
[*]All non-english rulebooks are moving to inches.
[*]Power dice aren’t generated by the number of spellcasters. The pool is decided by 2D6. Magic users add their magic level to the score rolled. All Wizards have a chance to generate more power dice.
[*]All missile units fire in two ranks (not just High Elves). Missile units will not gain a rank when shooting from hills.
[*]Autobreaking from fear or terror is gone.
[*]Combats are strictly decided in initiative order.

Warhammer 8th Ed Rulebook to be released July 10th
500+ pages (probably 528)
Possibly going to get the pdf erratas for all armies on July 6th

Crewed Dilemma

So here is my first bolt thrower with crew.

And heres my second

Revamped SW 1000 points.

HQ
Runepriest: (Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane), Wolftooth Necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Meltabomb, BP, Force Staff

Elite
Wolf Guard x 3: PFx2, Mark of the Wulfen

Commisar Lord vs Primus Psyker

So I've been looking at my Guard again and have started working on models. I still like my Mech guard and have been looking at ways to make them more viable. One thing about Mechanized guard is that your HQ choice really needs to be cheap.

The only reason to take a Company Command unit is put a cheap Colonel in there with either 4 meltas or plasmas. The Order system is a waste on Mech lists.

The Commissar Lord seemed the only real choice. The problem I had with my first list was that I stuck him in with an Ogrynn unit (which is insanely expensive and still dies very easily). I thought that it would be better to put him in with a Veteran unit (saves alot of points and gives me one very Stubborn unit)

Then I got to looking at my 3rd choice, the Primus Psyker. 70pts (no upgrades allowed), laspistol/Force weapon, WS4, Ld9, and has an Invunerable save. His primary shooting attack is called Arc Lightning (range 24, St4, 2d6 hits). I could put him in a unit of Plasma Vets and he could shoot out of the top of the Chimera with his unit. In using him, the fluff behind him is that he is an Inquisator leading his own little army to root out alien and heretic scum.

Or as Pidge suggested, I need a Slaan.......

1000 Points Space Wolves for Team Tournament

So this is what I am thinking of for my 1000 point Space Pup army to go along with the Necrons.

HQ:
Rune Priest with Runic Armor, Wolftooth Necklace and Storm Bolter
Jaws of the World Wolf, Living Lightning

Troops:
Grey Hunter Pack x 10 with Flamer, Melta, Mark of the Wulfen and Power Fist
Rhino with Extra Armor, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher

Grey Hunter Pack x 10 with Flamer, Melta, Mark of the Wulfen and Power Fist
Rhino with Extra Armor, Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher

Grey Hunter Pack x 5 with Melta, Mark of the Wulfen and Power Fist
Razorback with Extra Armor, TL Heavy Bolter, Smoke Launcher

Grey Hunter Pack x 5 with Melta, Mark of the Wulfen and Power Fist
Razorback with Extra Armor, TL Heavy Bolter, Smoke Launcher

993 points.

Mercenaries = SWs or CSMs

Like the title says, I want to make a army of Space Marine mercenaries, which I will name the Black Company. Black armor with Gunbolt Metal accents. The army will be themed after the Black Company books. They were some of my favorites growing up. The Black Company were a group of medieval/fantasy based mercenaries lead by powerful sorcerers.

The idea is to use a mixture of CSM, SW, and SM models to represent them, like the Iron Hand marines and the Legion of the Damned models. I was thinking of using the Death Watch Kill team models I have with their fancy shoulder pads to represent either Chosen CSM or SW Wolf Guard, that way I can use those great looking models that John gave me and actually use them without having to modify them..much..

I have both of the codexes and just can't decide which to base them from.

Any thoughts?

Templar Knights

So, for the Brettonians, I had been thinking of painting each lance of Knights in the same color scheme, then John pointed me to the Templar Knights. I think would be a very easy color scheme to stick with and would look good on the board.

Assassin vs Assassin

DE Assassin

m5 ws9 bs9 s4 t3 w2 i10 a3 ld10 base cost 90 (96 with extra hand weapon for +1a)
75 points of magic stuff, ASF, Hidden, Hatred, Poisoned Attacks and Scouts
May be taken as a unit upgrade..

Skaven assassin

m6 ws6 bs5 s4 t4 w2 i8 a3/4 ld8 base cost 105 (Cost going up with new codex)
50 points of magic stuff, ASF, Hidden, Poisoned Attacks, Scouts, Outflanking, and 4+ dodge save
Hero choice

The DE assassin is cheaper, better stats with the exception of toughness and you can have a lot more of them.. Plus some of the Khaines gifts are really nice..

The Skaven assassin has a 4 toughness, 4+ dodge save, and can get 50 points of real gear instead of the khaines gifts.. Which I think is honestly what makes them slightly (ever so slightly) better..

The DE would go first and likely do well.. but the Skaven assassin is more resilient in that he has a higher toughness, has an intrinsic save, and can take items to give him a ward save.. (25pts for a 4+ ward save for example) with points left over for some more Skaven nasty..

I still think the Skaven assassin would beat a DE assassin in a one on one fight.. Though maybe not.. I dunno..

What sucked previously about Skaven assassins was that they were heroes.. And that still sucks, especially considering the wealth of other rocken heroic stuff we could take..

Thoughts?

Beard, check. Cheese? Perhaps.

So I slapped some paint on my MM Long Fangs tonight. Only 3 of them 'cause one of them is still Bone and Green, and hasn't been dipped yet. So in stead of showing a picture of 3 dudes, that have just had some blue-grey slapped on them, I figured I'd talk about the new Space Pup special character that every has been talking about. Njal Stormcaller.

Njal's stat line is:

Thoughts on Space Wolves

So I wen't into BFG and waded through all the dirty WFB players (JWolf and Goatboy included) and got my dirty mits on the Space Wolf book.

Well the first half of the book is fluff (which is probably 50% of why I want it, and why I am trying to get my hands on the 2nd ed SW codex) which looks fantastic. A bit about how SWs are initiated differently from "vanilla" marines.

Some new a interesting artwork, and then we get into the good stuff.

Ultramarine Special Characters

I've really been reading alot about the Ultramarine Special Characters and if they are worth the points. I've also been playing around with Armybuilder looking at what kind of army builds I can make with them. Heres my conclusion:

Marneus Augustus Calgar: (have the model - painted) The man, the myth, the legend. He's damn expensive, coming in at 250pt (265 if you out him in his Terminator armor), but he's very hard to kill (Eternal Warrior) and will crush almost anything he gets his dual powerfists on (rerolls all attempts to wound shooting and CC). What he gives to the whole army is the ability for all units to CHOOSE whether to pass or fail any Morale checks. Right now, I've got him set up with a 7 man unit of Honor Guard (VERY expensive), but what I plan on doing is buying some assault termies with thunder hammers and turning them loose in a Landraider...

Cato Sicarius: (have the model - halway painted) Calgar's twice removed step brother... Coming in at a mere 200pts, he's pretty decent in CC (has an Istant Death sword and FNP), he gives the army a leadership of 10 for all units (like in the old codex), the abilty to reroll the Seize the Initiative dice (meh...), and gives one Tac squad the ability to Counter-attack, Infiltrate, Scout, or Tank Hunters (Scout is the obvious choice for me..) Thinking about giving him a command squad and sticking them in a Razorback..

Varro Tigurius: (Don't have the model yet) Chief Libarian of librarians.... 230pts for this librarian, but he knows all the Psychic powers and can use 3 per turn, plus you can reroll all reserve rolls (meh...) I got no plans on using him anytime soon...

Ortan Cassius - Ultramarine Chaplin: (Have the model - painted) Sure, he's just a Chaplin, but the model is very cool looking and if you're going to take a Chappy without a jumppack, he's the obvious choice. He's only 125pts and comes with a master-crafted combi-flamer and FNP. I have a list saved with him as the leader joined to a unit of Vanguad Veterans in a Landraider (more fluffy than competitive)

Torias Telion - Scout Sergeant: (have the model partly painted) Well, if you're taking snipers, he's a pretty decent upgrade for 50pts, but SM snipers aren't what they used to be and I have no plans on taking them in any of my lists, even though I have the models for a full 10 man squad. Meh....

Antaro Chronus - Armory Sergeant - (have the model partly painted) 70 points for this vehicle upgrade that ignores Shaken and Stunned effects and gives the vehicle a BS of 5. And even if the vehicle explodes, he jumps out and starts fighting on foot. I've seen alot of people putting him in a predator, but I can only see putting him either an all Lascannon Predator or a Landraider, where the BS 5 will really put a hurting on someone. He'll find his way into one of my lists...

Call me stupid, but I really want to stick to "pure" Ultramarine lists and not mix in these other non-Ultramarine Special Characters...

Hard Decisions

So I've been doing a lot of thinking about my "green and white" marines. While I was putting lists together for the G&Ws and the SWs I kept saying to myself one of two things "well those will be painted green and white, so I'll have to just have mis-matched schemes in the army," or "I already have a land raider that is painted blue, so I'll have to buy another," so I finally came to a decision.

I am going to ditch the G&W marines and stick with the SW colors (maybe less yellow though). I think the main reason I wanted to play a "vanilla" chapter was to do some of the minis that were less "wolfie" or ones that I thought didn't really go with the fluff. Like chaplains. There are some really nice Chappy models I'd like to paint up, but they don't really go with the SW.

So what I've decided is that, I'm going to pick up some Chappy minis, maybe a Thunderfire cannon, and if I want to use them, I'll just use my SWs as vanilla marines painted blue/grey.

Yeah ok, I have apparently decided to consider other options...

Urban Terrain opinion

So, I put the two small terrain sets together last night and made a huge 18'x24' terrain piece that I think looks fricken awsome, but I wondered if it's maybe too big. I placd my sandbag sets around it and it makes an awesome central objective to try and maintain and control. What do you guys think?

Send in the Tau...

Since John hasn't responded to my last few IMs about how he wants these..I'm posting what I've done so far anyway. So here's the squad post-priming:

And here's the first two "finished". It's really a quick and dirty paintscheme, but I think they look pretty decent. I have no idea how to base them because I'm still waiting to hear from John on that.

Commisar musings

So after playing Tom's guard today and facing his Commisar lord I think I have found an issue. Tom is using (I believe) the Commisar-Colonel (or is it Colonel-Commisar) Gaunt mini (seen below)

The problem with Gaunt is that he is just too, "OK guys lets all gather around for a group hug and then go kill the heretics!"
I think Tom needs an ass-kicking commisar that will put the fear of god into his enemies. I was cruising the GW site and found they had a whole page dedicated to commisar minis. Out of the ones there, I think this guy is the scariest.

But thats just my own personal $0.02.
